Project: australian Institute of sport X Bodd Case Study
How Bodd's 3D Scanning Technology Is Reshaping Elite Paralympic Performance
When the Australian Institute of Sport wants to test a technology, it doesn't do it gently. With access to some of the country's best athletes and subject matter experts, AIS is one of the most demanding proving grounds in the world and that's exactly what makes their partnership with Bodd worth paying attention to.
We spent two days on location in Canberra documenting this collaboration as a video case study, working alongside Paralympic long jumper Sarah Walsh and wheelchair marathon athlete Sam Rizzo as Bodd's body scanning technology was put through its paces in a real sport environment.
What Bodd's Technology Does
Bodd uses 3D scanning to create a precise digital twin of an athlete's body. The scan itself takes around a minute compared to the several hours that traditional measurement methods can require and all processing and mesh cleanup happens in the cloud. The result is a complete, accurate body model in a matter of minutes.
For an institution like AIS, which is working toward doubling the number of power athletes ahead of Brisbane 2032, the time saving alone is significant. But the technology goes further than efficiency.
The digital twin can be paired with motion capture data to model how an athlete moves through space, then simulate airflow around them using computational fluid dynamics software. That means performance decisions about equipment design, positioning, technique can be informed by data that simply wasn't accessible before.
For Sarah and Sam, one of the most immediate applications was the design of compression garments. Medical-grade compression requires precise body measurements, and the limitations of tape measures and manual methods have always been a constraint on how accurate and well-fitted those garments can be. Bodd's scanning changes that equation.
The Case Study Format
For brands like Bodd, technology companies working in specialist industries the video case study is one of the most effective formats available. It puts your product inside a credible, real-world environment, lets the results speak through the people who've experienced them, and creates content that works across sales conversations, investor decks, and long-term brand positioning.
The AIS partnership gave Bodd a proof point. Our job was to capture it in a way that made that proof visible.
